What is a Maintenance Mechanic?
A Maintenance Mechanic serves as a California Conservation Corps point person for vehicle, building, and equipment repair and maintenance. Maintenance Mechanics are based at CCC residential centers located across the state.
Maintenance Mechanics perform a wide variety of tasks at CCC residential centers and may instruct, lead, or supervise Corpsmembers while completing maintenance, alteration and repairs of buildings and equipment.
Mechanics report to the Administrative Officer and works on checking and maintaining plumbing, heating, water, and electrical systems. Other tasks may include repairing automotive, kitchen, and home appliance equipment. Mechanics will also ensure Corpsmember crew equipment is safe and in good condition.
How to Qualify
The Maintenance Mechanic exam is a testing class that is open on a continuous basis and once this exam is taken, you may not retake it for 12 months.
If you answer yes, to the questions below, you could qualify for this position:
- Have you completed, or are about to complete, a recognized apprenticeship in a mechanical trade?
- Do you have three years experience as a Building Maintenance Worker?
- Do you have an Associate of Arts Degree or Certificate of Completion in Mechanical Technology?
- Do you have four years experience working in mechanical trades?

Salary Range
$63,168 to $79,944 annually
