The CCC Los Piños Center is a residential facility where Corpsmembers live and work. All Corpsmembers live in the center’s dormitory buildings. Schedules vary but fire crews typically work four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday. During peak fire season, these crews may switch schedules to provide daily coverage. Culinary Corpsmembers work split shifts in the kitchen.

The center is located in the Santa Ana Mountains between Lake Elsinore and Mission Viejo along Highway 74. Corpsmembers primarily serve on wildland firefighting hand crews or work in the Culinary program Crews may also be dispatched across California, or out-of-state, on emergency assignments.

The Los Piños Center offers two main training opportunities in culinary and wildland firefighting. This center regularly partners with CAL FIRE on wildfire resilience projects.

Wildland Firefighting

The CCC Los Piños Center operates four wildland firefighting hand crews in collaboration with the CAL FIRE Riverside unit. Corpsmembers cut fire line, lay hose, and mop up wildland fires. They also reduce wildfire risk by removing vegetation, creating fuel breaks, and participating in prescribed burns. Crews respond to local calls and can be dispatched statewide.

“The CCC gave me all the proper training as well as certifications to excel in a job at CAL FIRE. Without the CCC I couldn’t have done it. It’s definitely pushed me to my limits physically and mentally when it comes to fighting fire. It also forced leadership skills out of me that I didn’t realize I was ready for.”
