The California Conservation Corps operates more than two dozen wildland firefighting hand crews. Fire hand crews operate at 15 CCC locations across California.
The CCC partners with CAL FIRE and the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to operate wildland firefighting hand crews. Corpsmembers work with CAL FIRE captains and BLM crew bosses to build fire breaks with hand tools and chain saws to slow and stop the spread of wildfires.
One year in the CCC can lead to great career opportunities with CAL FIRE, BLM, U.S. Forest Service, county and city fire departments, and many other fire agencies. Corpsmembers not only gain hands-on experience, they gain the certifications needed to launch a fire career.
Targeted Conservation Programs
Corpsmembers participate in a wide variety of project work, including Forest Health projects and enroll directly in the CCC Energy Corps. Corpsmembers can also apply to partnered programs working in the backcountry, improving endangered fish habitat, and more!
Emergency Response
The California Conservation Corps is legislatively mandated to respond to natural or manmade disasters in California. Corpsmembers have assisted with a variety of emergencies, including fires, floods, oil spills, earthquakes, and agricultural emergencies.
Funding Your Projects
The CCC develops and administers special state programs and grants that fund projects related to climate adaptation and resiliency, active transportation, forest health management, and more. Local, state, and non-profit agencies can partner with the CCC to address critical needs facing the state.
Natural Resource Conservation
The CCC works for a wide range of project sponsors throughout California, including state agencies, federal agencies, city and county agencies, school districts, nonprofit organizations and private industry.
