Fire Ready

A Los Piños fire crew starts its annual readiness hike covering more than three miles in a specific time. It’s part of how CCC fire crews get fire ready!

Are you ready for wildfire? Young adults from the California Conservation Corps certainly are!

“I want to be able to help people, save homes and lives really,” said CCC Corpsmember Anthony Cash. “It’s nice to be able to prevent fires from spreading.”

CCC Corpsmembers are creating defensible space around public buildings, constructing fuel breaks to slow the spread of fire, and leveling up their skills so they’re ready to respond to wildfires at a moment’s notice.

“I think prevention is very important when it comes to wildfires,” said CCC Corpsmember Simon Piolo. “It’s a service that has to be done to make sure that we can live in harmony with nature.”

In California, wildfire preparedness is a year-round activity with no shortage of work to do. Whether Corpsmembers are interested in forestry or fire service, CCC is a place where young adults can get paid to train and make a difference in communities and their own lives.

“Right now, I’m finishing up my certifications to become a Fire Inspector,” said CCC Corpsmember Noemi Cervantes. “Hopefully I’m able to give back to my community and inspire more women to be a part of it.”

If you’re interested in making a difference this, and every, fire season, you can transform your life with the CCC.
