“We need to restore the trail because it was washed out by fires and floods a few years ago.”

Years after floods and fires have left one of Big Sur’s most iconic trails unsafe for travel.

However, it is seeing a fair amount of CCC Los Padres foot traffic.

Corpsmembers from the center in San Luis Obispo, and other centers, have been helping our State Parks partners make the necessary repairs to return this trail to its safe, and walkable, glory.

Hiking to Help Hikers

Los Padres Corpsmember walk along the Ewoldsen Trail as they make their way to and from their work site in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

From building steps, to completely rebuilding trail beds, it’s hard work that sometimes requires a bit of math.

The reward of making a small difference in Big Sur though, is something these crews won’t soon forget.
