An Explosive Opportunity to Boost Endangered, Threatened Species

Santa Maria Corpsmembers work together to chain sand bags for disposal as they remove a temporary dam as part of a dam removal project near Vandenberg Space Force Base.

What happens when you mix a decades old dam, helicopter, and threatened species?

An explosive opportunity to improve our natural environment.

Santa Maria Corpsmembers spent a few weeks getting dirty—we’re talking mud and water—in the name of improving a creek for steelhead salmon and the California Red-legged Frog.

In partnership with The Nature Conservancy, Jalama Creek in the Dangermond Preserve near Lompoc is now flowing freely to the Pacific.

The hope is that will lead salmon and frogs to flock up stream and flourish.
